What it means
Each asterisk means every value for its field: every minute, every hour, every day of the month, every month and every day of the week. Put together, the job starts at the top of each minute and runs 1,440 times a day.
Use it for light checks such as polling a queue or a health endpoint, and make sure one run finishes well inside a minute. Cron does not wait for the previous run to end, so a slow job can pile up copies of itself. Wrapping the command in flock is the simplest way to stop runs from overlapping.
